Your personal info is valuable — and vulnerable. If it falls into the wrong hands, it could be used for fraud or identity theft. The good news? A few simple steps can help keep you safe.

Your personal information can be easily exposed—whether online or in the real world. If not properly protected, your data could be used for identity theft, financial fraud, or other forms of misuse.
Don’t worry! With a few simple steps, you can protect yourself from becoming a victim of scams.

1️⃣ Never Share Your Personal Information with Anyone
Information like your ID number, bank account, or passwords is confidential. If it falls into the wrong hands, it can be used to scam you.
✔ Never provide such information over the phone, email, or message without proper verification.
✔ Be cautious of emails or messages asking for OTPs – banks and financial institutions will never request these codes.
✔ Ensure websites are secure – only enter personal information on sites that begin with "https://".
📌 Tip: If an offer sounds too good to be true, it probably is a scam!

2️⃣ Use Strong & Unique Passwords
🔑 Weak passwords are easy to guess and hack. Make sure your passwords are hard to predict.
✔ Combine uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols.
✔ Don’t use the same password across all your accounts.
✔ Change your passwords regularly for added security.
📌 Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) for an extra layer of protection, especially for banking or finance apps.

3️⃣ Be Cautious of Suspicious Calls, Messages & Emails
📞 Scammers often pose as bank officers or government agencies to steal your personal information.
✔ Never share sensitive information over unsolicited calls.
✔ Verify the phone number or email address before responding.
✔ Don’t click links in suspicious emails or messages—they may lead to fake websites.
📌 Tip: If you receive a suspicious call, hang up and contact the real party directly via their official number.

4️⃣ Monitor Your Bank & Credit Card Accounts
📊 Identity thieves often start with small transactions to test your account before committing larger fraud.
✔ Regularly review your bank and credit card statements.
✔ Enable SMS or email notifications for real-time transaction alerts.
✔ Report any suspicious activity to your bank immediately.
📌 Tip: Don’t wait until the end of the month—check your statements at least once a week!

5️⃣ Use Secure Internet Connections
📡 Avoid using public Wi-Fi for financial transactions or logging into important accounts. Public Wi-Fi is unsafe and easy to hack.
✔ Use a private internet connection for financial activities.
✔ If you must use public Wi-Fi, enable a VPN (Virtual Private Network) for extra protection.
📌 Tip: If using someone else’s computer or phone, always log out after you're done!

6️⃣ Secure Your Physical Documents
📄 Personal information isn’t just digital – physical documents need protection too.
✔ Store important documents like your ID, passport, and bank statements in a safe place.
✔ Shred old documents containing sensitive information before discarding them.
✔ Don’t leave credit card or ATM receipts in public places.
📌 Tip: If possible, use digital bank statements to reduce the risk of lost or stolen physical documents.

🔴 What to Do If Your Information Is Stolen?
1️⃣ Contact your bank or credit card provider – Ask them to freeze the affected account.
2️⃣ Immediately change all your passwords – Do not reuse your old passwords.
3️⃣ Report to the authorities – File a police report and notify Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM).

📌 Tip: If your bank account is compromised, act fast! The quicker you respond, the better your chances of preventing loss.
